Valve Basics

A valve is usually a simple metal or other natural item that controls, guides or directs the movement of a fluid by either opening closing or partly restricting various passageways. Sometimes valves are specially designed for specific purposes such as reducing the loss of pressure by closing the passage into a spray collar in a medium service. Our valves either custom with dimensions provided by the customer or are manufactured according to published specifications such as API,ASME,ANSI,JIS,DIN. Several organizations and associations have published specifications that provide dimensional information as well as pressure specifications at different temperatures,Our company manufactures custom designs and stocks ten basic types of these products. Although, these are the ten most common types, we are a custom manufacturer as well and are able to create just about any type of valve necessary for your requirements. Please click on one of the following pictures for a more detailed description of the item you are interested in. Each page also has a catalogue that provides a better understanding of the installation process.

  • Ball Valves

A ball valve, is a type of quarter turn valve that uses a perforated, hollow and pivot turning ball to regulate flow. It’s opened when the ball of the valve is in line parallel with the external flow and shut when it’s pivoted at 90 degrees by the valve seat. It’s very reliable because of its design and efficiency, which make it highly suitable for applications where high efficiency is required.

  • Gate Valves

A gate valve, sometimes called a sluice valve or a cluster valve, is an industrial valve that lifts an internal pressure barrier out of the pathway of a liquid flow. Gate valves usually take up very little space in the pipe infrastructure and seldom restrict the flow of liquid when the gate is closed. The valve faces may be normally wedge shaped but often are actually parallel.

  • Globe valves

A globe valve, unlike the ball valve, is an effective type of commercial valve used for automatically controlling the flow in a pipe, usually consisting of a fixed disc or conical element and a fixed ring seat on a cylindrical body. With the help of this valve, controlled flow can be obtained at the point where it is desired, either for controlling the rate of fluid flow or for preventing any loss of pressure.

  • Check valves

A check valve is a mechanical device used to regulate the flow of a fluid, usually by closing its top or flaps. A check valve, pressure valve, return valve, foot valve, or one-way valve essentially is a valve which allows liquid to flow in only one direction, and in some cases causes the closing of the flaps to close permanently.

  • Plug valves

A  plug valve works in the same way as ball valves (ball & cone). Rotary screw plug valves consist of a cylinder that houses a piston. The piston rotates and forces a ring, or sleeve, to travel up and down the cylinder and open the valves.

  • Double Block and Bleed Valves

Double block and bleed valves are the preferred device, that works under certain conditions double block and bleed systems are needed to prevent product contamination or where it is necessary to remove essential equipment from service for cleaning or repairs while the unit continues in operation.

  • Butterfly valves

A butterfly valve, sometimes called a double valve, is a common valve found in plumbing systems. The name comes from the butterfly’s shape. The valve works by closing when water flows past it, then opening as water flows past it again. The closing mechanism in a butterfly valve is typically a disc which rotates around an axis. This is also the mechanism that creates a siphon effect and allows some water to flow from one side of the valve to anothe

  • Automatic Recirculation Valve

An automatic re-circulating valve is a sophisticated piece of equipment. The device, which has been designed with the sole purpose of regulating the flow of liquid through an input valve and then to regulate the flow coming back into the system. You might be wondering how this simple but important device works. To make things clearer, it is helpful to first understand the basic mechanics of how an automatic valve regulates the flow of fluid through its output port. Once you have read and understood this article you should know how to choose an automatic valve for your pump.

  • Monoflange Valves

Monoflange valve is also known by the names FLIP, V-flow, V-brake and T-flow and in United States it is also commonly called as tubular valve core. These valves have a tapered or rounded profile and are available as single, dual, or triple pack. The use of these valves is very common in the industries where water circulation is important, such as chemical plants, coal power plants, water treatment plants, sewage plants, and water desalination plants. This article provides some information about these valves.

  • Bellows Seal Valves

Bellows seal valves are valves employed in piping systems to safeguard against leakage. When selected and installed properly, they minimize the risk of potentially harmful chemicals causing injury or illness to workers and damage to the surrounding environment.

  • Strainer Valves

Strainers Valves have a wide range of applications to filter out foreign materials in pipelines.Kelite’s strainer is designed for long-lasting and healthy operation of many equipment in the system.Fluids like liquids, gases and vapors transmitted in the systems lead some undesirable substances. These foreign materials can be seen in the form of rust, lime, welding slag. These materials can damage the armatures on the system. To protect these armatures in the system, a strainer should be used in front of each fixture.
